The Perelin series is composed of 3-dimensional, self-supporting, stable luminous objects. Its clean, but at the same time flowing design is effected through the use of a special glossy electroluminescent glow sheet.
Perelin lamps are very light, thin and flexible, almost like paper. They provide indirect lighting and are defined by being twisted into themselves. All lamps of the perelin-series are very energy-efficient and very robust due to the use of this special EL-sheet. This material has so far only been widely used in aviation or outdoor advertising.
In terms of colour, the EL-sheet is responsible for the lamps' eye-catching surface. This material is luminous on one side only, all surfaces are laminated with a glossy film. The contrast between back and front side, between luminous and non-luminous surface creates a striking black-and-white effect. This interplay of colours can also be seen when the lights are switched off - the white now appears as a pastel antique pink.
The basic layout of each object is very simple. The specific folding of each object results in a 3-dimensional, complex shape. The material's tension is responsible for the resulting object's shape. The connecting endpoints are kept in a neutral colour and consciously emphasize the symbiotic tension displayed here. The inner and outer surfaces seem to merge into a homogenous flow of light.
The perelin-series' distinct features are its sensual shapes and its playing with contrasting colours. All lamps are unique and, taken together, they make for an atmospheric canon of light. Their ambiguous spatiality plays with the simple effect of a sculptural projection and unfolds its very own, unique world of shapes.
