Chion is a coffee table made from black-stained MDF and flat steel strip.

The table top measures 70 × 70 cm, with a depth of 19 mm and slightly chamfered edges. The coffee table has a height of 24 cm. The bands of flat steel strip are 1.5 m long, 4 cm wide and 4 mm deep.

Perfectly framing the MDF board, the steel bands rest on one another, their outer edges fully flush with those of the table top. This feature is based not simply on design but also on functional considerations. The bands both grip and support the table top and are held together with a countersunk bolt at the points of intersection. This arrangement results in a harmonious connection between wood and steel. The point of connection produces a particular functional moment and imparts the furniture with an ornamental character.

The construction has a stable, balanced design. Chion can be assembled and dismantled in a few simple steps for ease of transport.
